Expungement Clinic Success

On March 7th, 2025, the Rutherford County Re-Entry Program hosted an Expungement Clinic for the program participants at the Rutherford County Correctional Work Center. With the help of students and attorneys from Belmont University College of Law, 42 participants were served, and 398 records were submitted for expungement from this clinic.

An expungement is a court-ordered process that removes the legal record of a criminal case from view, making it unavailable to the general public. Expungement clinics reduce barriers to employment, housing, and education and help justice-impacted individuals move forward without the stigma of past mistakes. These clinics work to promote fairness and support rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

The Re-Entry Program partners with Belmont University College of Law at least twice a year to host expungement clinics for the residents at the Correctional Work Center.
